Hello fellow Kossacks. I am Anna Nevenic, progressive democratic candidate running for Congress in Nevada District 03. Our primary here in Nevada is August 15th, with early voting beginning July 29th. I am new to blogging and was not really familiar with how the comments process worked. I do read all of the comments and appreciate the suggestions and feedback that have been offered so far. I am so busy campaigning every day, which limits my internet time, but I will try to answer comments more often when I can or address them in future diaries. In this diary, I'll take the opportunity to respond to some of your comments to date.
I have been a member of the California Nurses' Association (CNA) for years and through our union, nurses have developed a detailed plan for universal health coverage and are working with Representative John Conyers on the HR 676 Healthcare For All Americans bill:

As I am not accepting money from insurance companies or any other wealthy special interest groups, I believe I will be able to persuade representatives of both parties to unite on such a monumental issue as health care for all and make HR 676 a reality. It could be payed for by increasing the corporate tax on the industries that contribute to the illness and pollution of our water, air and land. Many of these corporations are currently being subsidized by our tax dollars and pay little or no income tax at all.
Some of the comments raised the fact that Tessa Hafen is a well-funded candidate, but it takes much more than money to win an election. I have spent many months connecting personally to thousands of people in the area, and most of them would like to be represented by someone not tied to Big Money. Experience has shown that more of the money raised is being spent on negative attack ads, turning many voters away from the polls altogether. In the end, in tight races, Republicans often end up winning.
I am involved as well in organizations that are supporting Clean Money Initiatives. If we do not take the money out of politics, there is very little hope for any meaningful reforms of health care, education, the environment and renewable energy or most other issues important the American people.
